What is a Fema Flood Map? When Buying or Selling Property, This is Something You Need to Know.
The FEMA Flood Map determines whether the property is located within a flood zone. There are different zones depending on if it is a 100 year flood plain, 500 year flood plain, etc. This zone will determine whether a lender will require flood insurance. If the property is located within a flood plain, the lender will require flood insurance. The insurance premium will be more if the home is located in a flood plain compared to if a home is not located in a flood plain. There are also other contributing factors when it comes to flood insurance. If it is your primary residence, then the premiums are less than if it is a 2nd home, or vacation/rental/investment property.
The FEMA Flood Map Service Center (MSC) is the official public source for flood hazard information produced in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Use the Map Service Center (MSC) to find your official flood map, access a range of other flood hazard products, and take advantage of tools for better understanding flood risk.
FEMA flood maps are continually updated through a variety of processes. Effective information that you download or print from this site may change or become superseded by new maps over time. For additional information, please see the Flood Hazard Mapping Updates Overview Fact Sheet
